Davidson, NC – The Davidson College men’s lacrosse team will officially launch their season this weekend with home games against Coastal Carolina University on Friday night and Emory University on Sunday. The games are a part of a 3 team round-robin which will also include a game between Emory and Coastal Carolina on the Davidson fields on Saturday afternoon.
Davidson opens SELC play on Friday night facing Coastal Carolina at 8 PM on the Davidson Lacrosse Field. The last time the two teams met, Davidson fell to the eventual division champions 18-3 at Coastal. The Chanticleers finished the 2014 season 4-9 and missed the SELC playoffs. The game is a good opportunity for each team to begin the season strong with an out of division win to build on.
The Wildcats will return to the field Sunday, February 8th, at noon to take on the Eagles from Emory. The two programs have familiar ties which has led to an annual game between the two southern schools. Emory is coached by former Davidson goalie, Karl Schmidt and are a program on the rise. The last meeting between the two teams found Davidson earning a come from behind victory 12-10 over the Eagles in Atlanta.
“We have a young team but an incredibly talented team” said head coach Ben Ralston, “they are all excited to get on the field and see how they stack up against conference competition.”
Both games will be played on the Davidson lacrosse field; 205 Ridge Road in Davidson, NC
