Recruiting FAQs

Thank you for considering Davidson College men’s lacrosse.  Choosing where to attend college is an important decision and we are happy to help in any way we can.  If you are interested in being added to our list of recruits in order to learn more about opportunities at Davidson please fill out our recruiting questionnaire.

It’s important to note that we have no direct relationship with the Admissions office and your admission to Davidson will be determined by your own merits. Our role, in regards to admissions, is to give guidance and provide resources to help you through the application process.

What is the recruiting philosophy at Davidson?

At Davidson, our philosophy in the recruiting process is to be “informative and evaluative.”  This means that we want to inform prospects about our program and the education they will receive at Davidson and aid them as best we can so they can make an intelligent decision about their college choice.

There are several aspects to being a student-athlete. We believe that students who are interested in playing lacrosse at Davidson should understand what the college has to offer academically, socially, and athletically.  We are looking to find student athletes who will buy in to the entire Davidson College experience.

We are more than happy to answer any question and speak to any prospective student athlete no matter what their interest an skill level.

What is the recruiting process?

The best way to indicate your interest in Davidson College and Davidson Men’s Lacrosse is to fill out a recruiting questionnaire. This is just a simple contact form that allows us to learn a little about you and your goals for your college education and playing career. We respond to every inquiry and are very happy to hear from you.

We always appreciate seeing game tape and highlights and hearing about athletic and academic accomplishments in order to evaluate skill level and help you determine fit.

We will occasionally attend events in the fall or summer – typically in the Charlotte area – so please let us know if you will be in town.

Will playing lacrosse help me with admissions?

As mentioned above, we do not have direct influence with the Admissions office. However, we are happy to help answer questions about the admissions process, introduce you to admissions counselors and help set up campus visits for you to get a feel for the college and the program. Filling out the recruiting questionnaire is the best way to begin that process.

Are there any scholarships available?

Davidson currently has no scholarships designated for men’s lacrosse players. However, in a commitment to access and affordability of education, several years ago Davidson College established The Davidson Trust which meets 100 percent of demonstrated financial need of accepted students through a combination of grants and campus employment, without relying on loans. For more information about Financial Aid, please visit their website.

Are there other financial impacts of the club?

As with other college and university sponsored clubs, the lacrosse team is supported in part by player dues. However, in Davidson’s commitment to affordability and through support from the college, these dues are significantly less (up to 95% less) than other lacrosse programs and currently range from $175 to $300 per year depending on fall season involvement and equipment requests.

What is the time commitment?

We consider our players to be student-athletes which means that we expect them to get involved with other aspects of Davidson in addition to the their education and the lacrosse team including social organizations and other college clubs. However, we request that players be committed to the team and their teammates during scheduled practices, workouts and team functions. Estimated commitment level is 6 hours a week in the fall and 10 hours a week in the spring with two to three weekends away from campus. We do our best to work around school sponsored events but are looking for players who are willing to make a commitment to the team during time which is designated for lacrosse.

Do you make cuts?

Anyone who is willing to make the commitment to the team can contribute to the team and we do not make cuts. Contributions can be significant no matter what skill level and we appreciate every student who wants to be a part of our program.
