Davidson, NC – The Davidson College Men’s Lacrosse team has hit the ground running in their campaign to capture an SELC championship. Although league games do not start until the spring, the Wildcats began fall practices early to prepare young players ready for the tough league schedule. A part of that preparation included two games against regional teams which the Wildcats swept.
During the first week in November, Davidson hosted cross-town rivals from UNC-Charlotte. Playing in front of friends and family during Parents Weekend, the game remained close for the first half. The separation came in the second half when senior goalie (.685 sv%) and freshmen defensemen and locked down the 49er defense allowing Davidson to pull away to a 12-6 victory. Sophomore lead the scoring with 6 of the 12 goals.
The following week, Davidson traveled to High Point, NC to play the High Point University Panthers on their home turf. Freeburg once again lead the attack taking several feeds from senior (8 assists) on his way to scoring another 6 goals in the 14-8 victory. senior attackman and freshman midfielder each scored 3 goals in the win, while sophomore had 2.
The ‘Cats open their season on February 1st when they host the College of Charleston Cougars at 7 PM on the Davidson lacrosse field and if the fall is any indication of the level of play we should expect going into the season, this will be a team to watch.
